NZ author Claire Jewitt writes from her home in Diamond Harbour, New Zealand, sharing stories of life, humour, and resilience through fiction and reflection.
Writing has always been my way of making sense of life — whether through humour, observation, or a touch of imagination. This page brings together pieces I’ve written over the years: reflections on living with multiple sclerosis, the adventures of my much-loved ginger cat Weasley, my published children’s book Maisey Morley’s First Christmas, and a few snippets of verse and lighter jottings.
📚 Books
My first children’s book, Maisey Morley’s First Christmas, was published by Nightingale Books in 2022. Maisey and her friends have many more stories waiting in the wings, but for now, she’s taking a well-earned rest while Weasley the cat steals the spotlight.
🐾 The Woes of Weasley
Inspired by my own cat’s antics (and anxieties), The Woes of Weasley began as a series of diary-style stories written during New Zealand’s lockdowns. Blending local humour with a hint of world satire, they’ve since grown into a full book: The Woes of Weasley – The Diary of an Orange Cat.
📰 Articles & Stories
Alongside my fiction, I’ve written articles and essays about resilience, community, and life with MS — including features published in The Press and other New Zealand outlets.
- MS(D) Gets on My Nerves – The Press, October 2025
- MS Care Can’t Wait — and Neither Can We – published by MS Society of New Zealand
- Still Here – winner of the Graeme Lay Short Story Competition 2025

✍️ Verse & Random Jottings
Occasionally, I turn to poetry or short reflective pieces — the kind that don’t quite fit anywhere else but still insist on being written. These range from quiet moments of gratitude to the occasional piece of dry humour.
💫 Closing note
Thank you for visiting — I’m Claire Jewitt, an author and storyteller from Diamond Harbour, New Zealand. I write about the things that make us laugh, cry, and carry on — often with a cat by my side.
